Khadijah Ali has had an inspirational career as a lawyer that has been fighting for people’s legal and Constitutional rights for 30 years. As a young teen/adult growing up in Philadelphia, PA, when she wasn’t busy studying for school, doing homework, or chores at home or socializing with friends, Ms. Ali spent part of her recreational time watching television shows such as the “Paper Chase, “LA Law” and “The Practice.” It was during this period that Ms. Ali first developed an interest in becoming a lawyer. She was fascinated with the prospect of fighting for those who had been wronged civilly or criminally in the legal arena. In particular, Ms. Ali was excited about the idea of fighting it out in a courtroom setting and using the law to right wrongs and provide justice to those who don’t have the ability to, or who are unable to fight for themselves. With these goals in mind, Ms. Ali was drawn to litigation law, because it was the most direct way to accomplish those goals, and she has been fighting for people ever since.
Ms. Ali never deviated from this path. When she entered college at Rutgers University, unlike other freshmen just entering college, Ms. Ali knew she was going to be a lawyer, and structured her college career to meet that end. After four years at Rutgers, Ali immediately entered the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University, earning her JD in three years. Eager to get started on her dream career path, she wasted no time. After passing the Bar, she started a brief position with U.S. Department of Transportation. Not satisfied with the experience she had there, after about a year, she decided to do something drastic by hanging out her “shingle,” and starting her own business.
Ms. Ali jumped right in. She began by doing court appointed work for the District of Columbia. This put her right into the courtroom arena, where she worked tirelessly over the years honing her trial skills by representing indigent adults and juveniles in all manner of criminal cases from traffic to homicides. It was this training that prepared her for moving onto other areas of law such as family, personal injury, contracts, landlord and tenant and probate, adding these areas to her practice over the years. In the past 30 years, Ms. Ali has handled and litigated over two thousand cases at both the trial and appellate levels. Also, as part of her civil practice Ms. Ali has litigated numerous police misconduct cases, some of which have resulted in six figure awards. She has found these cases to be some of the most rewarding, as it has allowed her to go after police who are engaging in brutality and the violation of people’s rights, and the municipalities that support and harbor them.
Ms. Ali believes strongly in giving back, and has demonstrated this be donating her time providing free legal advice and services through free clinics organized by various Islamic Masjids and Churches in the Maryland and District of Columbia communities. She works tirelessly fighting for and defending the rights of children who find themselves in the court system. Being able to representing and possibly, help these vulnerable individuals, is one of the reasons she became lawyer.
Lately, Ms. Ali is directing her focus and practice, mainly in the areas of personal injury and premises liability. Representing individuals who have gotten injured in a store, a business or some other location.
In addition to being a lawyer, Ms. Ali holds a Master of Art degree in design from George Washington University.
Ms. Ali holds a license to practice law in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Pennsylvania. Ms. Ali is also licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia and Maryland Federal courts.
